On this tour we explore the heart of East L.A. and Boyle Heights where the most sought-after tortillerias, birrierias, and tamale kitchens in the city are found. Featured tastes are foods perhaps typically expected – yet extraordinarily prepared - from time-honored family recipes which when combined with the warmth and hospitality of the restaurateurs yield a truly unforgettable experience. Be inspired by stories of courage and fortitude from the owners and merchants encountered along the way, and discover the ease and convenience of riding between tour stops in the safe comfort of Metro Gold Line trains. Starting with the first tasting, guests are treated to traditional handmade foods, some of which originated south of our border over 100 years ago! Foods tasted may be typically expected, yet are extraordinarily prepared. The tour concludes back at our original starting point.

"Best way to experience this historic place!"

As a food tour operator myself, and a foodie, I love taking food tours all over the globe - and have done several Melting Pot food tours. I always learn from these pros! We took the Farmers Market tour (family and friends) and it was really cool - I loved learning the history of the market and the area, and meandering through the market while we tried various foods. While I prefer tours that cover a larger area, such as a community or neighborhood, I highly suggest this one for those who want to visit the market and learn its history and that of some of its original stalls. It would also be great for people who can't walk as far as longer food tours.

My friend Jody gifted me one of her @MeltingPotFoodTours featuring the Latin flavors of Boyle Heights in East LA and it was the best day ever. Our tour guide was her brother Kerry Flowers @genrehotels @flowershotelgroup9 one of the funniest people I know, only one of several tour guides. Kerry led us on a historical tour of the neighborhood starting at Mariachi Plaza before we stopped for handmade tastings at 8 of the local family eateries including @birrieriadonboni. We were happy to get our steps in smelling the aroma of too much great food. We stopped at a marketplace to try spices, and delicacies and shop for souvenirs while listening to live performances. The day ended with a slice of Tres Leches cake and churros. Thank goodness the walk was 3 ½ hours having stopped at 8 tasting spots to indulge ourselves. I love living in LA and made a promise to myself to enjoy as many neighborhoods and events as the city has to offer instead of waiting for visitors to come to town. Our tour group was ridiculously fun and we all became fast friends. There are tours of the Original Farmers Market, Old Pasadena, East Village Long Beach, Thai Town, and soon a Little Tokyo tour! You can curate a private group tour for friends from small to large groups, or purchase gift certificates. My goal is to accomplish all the tours in 2024!

Great food, the tour guide was not up to the standard of other food tour guys we have had who have been much more knowledgeable and interesting. Her interpersonal skills were lacking.
