Hotel Normandie LA is located in downtown Los Angeles and gained notoriety in the 1920s and 1930s. This historical boutique hotel was once home to the English author Malcolm Lowry while writing the famous novel, Under the Volcano.

The hotel houses Cassell's Hamburgers which opened in 1948. Major renovations have brought this Koreatown hotel up to date, it maintains its original aspects from the restored terrazzo floor in the lobby to the rich mahogany doors in the halls. Travelers who are looking to shop may want to visit Melrose Ave and The Grove.

Daily wine reception takes place every evening in the lobby, offering adult guests the chance to unwind with prime pours of whites, reds, and sparkling rosés.

Take a trip back in time at Woody Lovell's classic-style barbershop, located right in the Hotel Normandie. Built in the 1920s with the rest of the building, this antique parlor features much more than just a shave, haircut, and shampoo. The well-groomed hipster haven offers tailoring, beer and whiskey, gentleman’s advice, and an overall commitment to manhood.

Woody Lovell is the founder of The Barber Shop Club, as well as a leading innovator in the male grooming industry. With clients ranging from A-List actors to famous musicians to top professional athletes, Lovell is a consultant to the best of the best. With The Barbershop Club, Lovell creates a space and safe haven for healthy masculinity, offering not only expert grooming but a place for men’s life advice and expression.

"Charming throwback to the Golden Days"

This little gem far exceeded our expectations. We chose it for it’s proximity to Family we came to visit. It turned out to be a classy, comfortable well managed little boutique hotel with a colorful past. Its recent renovations brought some convenient improvements (good water pressure, great beds n bedding) and kept it’s Golden Days charm (beautifully tiled deep bathtub, refinished mahogany doors and original hardwood floors). The staff was great, friendly, responsive and proactive, very helpful and conscientious. Lovely lobby with a fountain, big fireplace, high ceiling, nice lighting and comfortable furniture. Wide variety of restaurants nearby and having a subway stop a block away made it easier to get around than we expected. We thought the price was very reasonable - we’ve paid a lot more for a lot less!

Excellent stay! The room was very clean and well designed. Mattress was super comfortable. There was a bit exterior noise (street and other guests) but otherwise an extremely pleasant experience.

"Vintage Charm, Modern Inconveniences"

Stayed one night for a concert, so I was only in the hotel for about 6–7 hours (mostly asleep), but overall it was a solid stay. The hotel is old but has a quirky, vintage charm—my room had baseball cards and trophies for decor, which gave it a fun, nostalgic vibe. Pros: -Strong AC in the room -Shower pressure was incredible—like a waterfall -Complimentary wine during happy hour -Great location, walkable to lots of food and just 10 mins from The Wiltern -Ice machine also has filtered water <3 Cons: -No AC in the hallways, which made common areas stuffy -No fan in the bathroom (I am pee shy) -Parking is $45 per night across the street, and valet doesn’t bring your car, you have to walk/lug your stuff across, or risk pulling into the hectic loading zone out front

"Excellent Choice When Visiting LA"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5

Hotel Normandie is a lovely, historic hotel conveniently located in the heart of Koreatown, LA. We stayed for about 10 nights while visiting family. This is not a luxury hotel, however, it is clean and very comfortable. It is located close to quite a few coffee shops and restaurants and the neighborhood seems safe. I loved the hardwood floors throughout the hallways and guest rooms. The grand lobby with its huge fireplace and wooden beams and columns are quite lovely. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay here again.

"Nice hotel - ancient smell"

We recently stayed at Hotel Normandie and really appreciated the charm and beautiful decor — it has a lot of character and a great vintage feel. The location is excellent, with easy access to local attractions, and the on-site restaurant was a lovely surprise — breakfast and coffee were fantastic each morning. That said, there were a couple of drawbacks worth noting. The building does have a strong, musty smell typical of older properties, and the soundproofing left something to be desired — we could clearly hear conversations from neighboring rooms, especially through the bathroom walls. Overall, the price felt fair for the level of service and accommodations, and we genuinely enjoyed many aspects of our stay. With a few improvements, this could easily be a 5-star experience. 4/5 ⭐
