Description

Discover the delicious mom-and-pop shops and restaurants of Brooklyn to experience how food is the engine of our local ecosystem. Brooklyn's Smith and Court Streets and surrounding neighborhoods have a vibrant mix of small, locally-owned, artisanal food shops unlike almost any other neighborhood in America. On this Brooklyn tour you will find out how these unique spots came to be, and with a local guide you’ll discover just what it is that makes them special. We’ll visit both old school haunts and new culinary entrepreneurs to experience an exciting menu of both traditional flavors and daring dishes. We'll stop into Italian and Middle Eastern shops that have long been the staple of the neighborhood, and explore the growing scene of cafes and restaurants specializing in New American cuisine. While we enjoy their delicacies, we'll learn about the neighborhood's rich history and changing character from the local business owners and residents themselves. From artisan cheese and bread shops, Italian pastry stores, cafes with coffee roasters, the oldest Middle Eastern bakery in NYC, and a modern soda fountain, this NYC food tour couldn’t get more unique if it tried. The shops and food in this area have been featured in press and TV all around the world, from Australia to France, and is by consensus the best food neighborhood in NYC. So definitely come hungry!

Can't recommend the Tenements, Tales and Tastings Tour enough! Mickey was a fabulous tour guide. We learned so much about the city and the immigrants who made it what it is today. The tastings were delicious! Such an excellent way to get a feel for the city!

Our tour guide was Mickey. She was very knowledgeable about the area including a lot of historical facts, answered questions, and she was there right on time we didn’t have to wait for her our tour started a little early. The tour was great it was a long walk but it was well worth it and we wish we had just a few more food tasting stops but, the ones she took us to were amazing! My family of 3 highly recommends her and her tour!

"Best Food Tour in NYC"

Our guide, Mickey Pantano, was incredibly knowledgeable about the city, locations, and food genres being toured — along with a supremely gifted narrator for our wonderful trip. We must’ve walked about 3 miles and covered Civic Center, Chinatown, Little Italy, Lower East Side, and others to discover wonderful cuisine and restaurants we otherwise wouldn’t have known. This is the third tour we’ve done with this company — all have been outstanding but this was the best guide, locations, and itinerary. Wonderful for out of Towners or local Manhattanites like us.

Mickey was our tour guide and she was absolutely fantastic explaining the history of each culture and keeping everyone interested and involved in the tour. I would highly recommend this tour if you want to know interesting background info on how NYC came about.
