"Don’t sit in the balcony"

We sat in the balcony. Due to the steep angle of the seats to the stage, it can easily make you feel slightly iffy….. the show itself was ok, not spectacular but ok. The seating in the balcony is just not great. If someone over 5’6 is sat in front of you, or someone of a larger build, you cannot see the stage and find yourself moving left to right , right to left, to see what’s going on….. if you’re at a loose end, go. If not, I wouldn’t bother, even with better , higher priced seats than the balcony.

Our first ever Broadway show in NYC. The genie was excellent and raised the entire energy of the show. The songs, dances--especially the one with the flying carpet (a whole new world!) was breathtaking!! I wish I could watch this again. The architecture of New Amsterdam theatre is truly beautiful. Go in early to beat the rush.

"A great performance of the stage version of Aladdin"

This Aladdin theatre show was just great. Well, you have to go to a Broadway theatre when you're in New York, don't you. We picked this one and saw the DIsney version of Aladdin. It was brash and over the top - just what you expect in America. It was entertaining and well performed all round and the effects were great - the stage floor seemed to be divided into many pieces, Genie and others popping up everywhere. A great night out.

"Disney Spectacular in Heart of Times Square"

Two & one-half hours of a Disney spectacular is way too much for me, but I'm not the target audience. My 7-year-old niece, who is the target audience, was enthralled, along with the other hundreds of kids in the magnificently restored New Amsterdam Theatre in Times Square. The glitz is amazing--8,644 Swarovski crystals, for example--and the costumes gorgeous but the singing and dancing is mediocre. That didn't bother the kids one little bit.

Although the name of the production is “Aladdin” however, for me, the star of the show was the Gene! The colours, singing, dancing - it was like watching the movie Live!
