"Lightner Museum"

Very interesting museum in a magnificent old building. The former Alcazar Hotel built by Henry Flagler is home to the museum. There is art, architecture and many different and sometimes strange things to see. The gilded age collection, in particular, is amazing.

The Lightner Museum was formally a hotel built by Henry Flagler. The building is stunning and the gardens / fountains etc all wxcellent.

Situated in the former Hotel Alcazar, a resort hotel dating back to 1888, the Lightner Museum takes you back to the Gilded Age with its collections and displays of Tiffany glass, furniture, sculpture, jewelry, and more. The building was designed by the NYC firm of Carrère & Hastings, known for their Beaux Arts architecture style. The multi-story atrium was an awesome view as I visualized hotel guests enjoying themselves. Mr Lightner's personal collections (he was the publisher of Hobbies magazine in the mid-20th century) are quite diverse and interesting!!

Wow. The architecture and history of this museum are outstanding. Do not miss the photographer William Henry Jackson 1890's photos of St. Augustine and the Alcazar Hotel (including the amazing pool). Enjoyed the current exhibits of vintage bicycles and gilded age treasures. If you like history and/or art, do not miss this amazing museum.

Very interesting, well done museum. Love the “pool” area that is now used as a restaurant… & the sauna/shower areas. You could visualize the hotel in use. Definitely recommend.
