"Not for us, yes for others"

Like the title states this wasn't a tour for us, but we see it as great for others. This was our last tour on our honeymoon and as a young couple we wanted adventures and this a lot of driving. It's great for older people or those with kids needing a break but we didnt love it. Our tour guide was amazing though and made sure we had everything we needed like drinks, snacks, and breaks. We enjoyed the sites we stopped at and the dinner was wonderful but it was too much driving for us personally.

My husband and I had the pleasure of taking the Deluxe Big Island Tour on Sept. 14, 2024. And we had a fabulous time. Your driver/tour guide, Kerry, was awesome and amazing. He was knowledgeable about all the spots we were visiting and provided just the right amount of information about each site we visited. He made our once-in-a-life-time visit a most memorable one.A special shout-out to him and you because you were kind enough to return to where we were staying to give me some items that were left on the van by us the next day. Thank you. This was one of the most flawless tours we have ever experienced!

Frequently Asked Questions about Deluxe Volcano Experience

Where are the pick-up locations at?

Kailani Tours Hawaii offers free front door pick-ups at all major West Hawaii hotels and resorts. They also offer the option to meet at a central meeting point to accommodate a busy vacation schedule, if you prefer. For bed and breakfasts or smaller resorts, they are happy to work with you. Leave the driving to them!

Are there any age/physical/health/etc. restrictions for this tour?

No. Nearly all tours include the opportunity for a few short walks. However, none of them include any walking longer than 20 minutes with the exemption of the Kona Coffee, Cloud Forest, and Brewery Experience. Should guests choose to skip any of the short walks, Kailani guides are happy to make further accommodations.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

Their vans are equipped to handle the easy storage of a collapsible wheelchair or other medical equipment. They do not have a wheelchair lift, however. They have also installed an extra hydraulic side step for extra ease on and off for all riders.

Are snacks, meals, and tips included in tour prices?

Yes, lunch and dinner are included. Kailani Tours Hawaii has chosen to work with the best restaurants and caterers on the Big Island to bring their guests an experience of all five senses. Tipping is, of course, at the discretion of the tour guest but is customary and always appreciated when great service has been provided.

How long is the tour?

The tour is approximately 11 hours (afternoon and evening).

What should I wear?

Although Hawaii is home to the endless summer, there are places and times where the temperature can drop substantially. Temperatures at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park can range from 50 to 75 degrees F. Saddle Road temperatures can get even chillier, to perhaps 40 degrees F. Kailani Tours Hawaii recommends wearing comfortable footwear, a hat, and sunglasses, and shorts or long pants. Most guests wear a light jacket or bring long pants for after sunset. You have plenty of opportunities to change as the weather changes frequently. Oh, don’t forget your camera!

How comfy are the vehicles?

Very! Their guides want to work for them because they pamper the guests AND the guides. Having driven low-roof, hard-seated, worn-out vans in the past, they understand the importance of being comfortable on the ride to the volcano (or around the island!) Maintaining a fleet of Mercedes Benz passenger vans is more expensive than using inferior vehicles, but they never cut corners on safety or customer service – ever. Their brand new vehicle even has reclining leather seats. Their vans have high roofs to maneuver through the cabin, adjustable air conditioning, seatbelt extensions, cup holders, and large windows for the best views. The audio/visual package is top-of-the-line with a large flip-down monitor and separate speakers for video and guide headset. This technology allows for the driver/guide to show video while narrating; it’s the ultimate way to cruise the Big Island!

Can you accommodate special diets?

All Kailani Tours experiences include tasty meals with local ingredients made by local chefs. They accommodate special diets or preferences by request via number on the e ticket.

Do they operate tours on holidays?

They do operate on most holidays. However, they do not operate their regular tour on the Ironman World Championships in October, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Their suppliers don’t operate on those days, so they elected to do the same.
