Often at the epicenter of civil and black rights activism in America, the country’s capital holds the key to some of history’s most captivating moments. From the most famous to lesser-known but equally significant sites, your tour guide will paint a picture of the city from the African American perspective. You’ll be picked up at the U.S. Navy Memorial with stops at momentous monuments such as the Emancipation Statue, Howard Theatre, and vibrant black communities.

This tour includes free timed-entry passes to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. This is not an official Smithsonian tour. Additionally, entry to the property is provided complimentary only after completing the sightseeing history tour.

What if I'm late?

You must arrive 15- 20 minutes before your scheduled departure time to ensure your reservation is honored. You have up to ten (10) minutes before the scheduled departure time to ensure your seat on tour. Ten (10) minutes before the departure time, they note outstanding reservations as "no-shows." If they have walk-up passengers, they will be given a ticket and will be boarded at this time.

What is included in the tour?

This Washington DC bus tour includes a timed-entry ticket to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, a tour of unique and lesser-known landmarks with a poignant backstory, an expert guide, and transportation between landmarks.

What type of bus will we use?

USA Guided Tours uses 35-passenger luxury tour buses for their daily mixed tour groups. They do their best to keep large, same-party groups together on the same bus. USA Guided Tours reserves the right to substitute their small-capacity tour buses with larger 55-passenger buses, depending upon demand and their tour schedule. The 55-passenger buses have bathrooms on board for your convenience.

How long do we stay at each stop on the tour?

It depends on the stop. Your tour guide will tell you the planned amount of time for each stop. They have allowed enough time at every stop for you to walk around and take plenty of pictures.

What should I bring?

The shuttle buses and vans do not have storage for accommodating carry-on bags. They ask that you only bring purses, briefcases, or backpacks for your tour. Please note that USA Guided Tours reserves the right to inspect any bags, book bags, briefcases, or backpacks you carry on board.

What should I wear?

Light walking is involved during stops. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes during this trip.

Is the African American History and Culture Tour appropriate for children?

Yes, this tour is appropriate for all ages. Kids under 12 receive USA Guided Tour's discounted children's price (varies with tours). Children under 3 years old ride for free if they can be held in their parent's lap during the tour. You may purchase a child's discounted ticket if you want a separate seat for your infant.

Is transportation included?

Hotel pick-ups and drop-offs are not provided. If you’re driving in, please be prepared to park your vehicle in one of the paid indoor parking garages close to the tour departure location.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately, USA Guided Tours' shuttles are not wheelchair accessible, nor is there storage for baby strollers. If you have a wheelchair, please make a note at time of booking or call the number on your e-ticket to make special vehicle arrangements for your tour. Some of their tours involve longer walks, so if you like, you may stay on board the shuttle, near the landmark, without exiting the shuttle bus every time.

Can I reschedule my tour?

They understand things come up, so USA Guided Tours will happily change your date or time as long as they have availability. If you must change, please call the number on your e-ticket as soon as possible.
