Location was perfect for what we had planned in NYC- Gershwin Theater and Times Square. The doormen/bellhop staff were great. Friendly and welcoming!!

Looking at some of the reviews, I wonder if we stayed at the same hotel. Thank God it was only one night. There was a group of 4 traveling on business, so we had 4 rooms. Some got there earlier one suggested I don't take my socks off since the carpets we pretty bad. All rooms we bad by any standard, but mine was the worst. Starter off bad, go there and on AC in the lobby 85 degrees outside so it is a sweat box. Get the card for the room, walked through some really stained carpet to get to the room and found card will not work. Go all the way back down and get new cards, hooray it worked, Room looks like an old college dorm, no AC, thermostat is blank, no air moving, phone says 83 degrees. I catch the security guy who tells me the City won't let them turn the AC on till the end of on until the end of month end of the month, but he could get me a fan. Go out to dinner, come back, still no fan, no AC which all the other hotels had on, so I tried to call the desk, phone doesn't work. Go back down and ask the lady at the desk what I have done to offend her that she gave me such a room. She gets the manager who tells me it is an old hotel and that it is difficult to change from heat to AC. I tell her that she should forewarn people of what to expect, and that if the system ran it would be cooler in the room. She offered me a new room that is cooler, I agree, and she tells me a bellman would be up in 15 minutes to help me move and give me the cards. I go back and pack. He comes and gives me the keys and leaves. New room is 2 floors down, no big deal. But then I get there and the card won't open the door, go back to the lobby and new cards, hooray, they work. Room was still pretty rough, but the AC was running and it was 72 degrees in the room. TV worked, only 6 stations and I had hot water for a shower so, it was livable at that point.

"A decent value, slightly tired hotel in a great location"

This hotel is a great base to see NYC providing you don't expect luxury or frills. The lobby area is modern and staff are fairly friendly. The corridor and rooms however are a bit tired and in need of updating. The wallpaper in our room was starting to peel off the walls, we had leaky taps in the bathroom and to room just had a dated feel with tattered drawers and a chipped bed side table, despite this the room was a decent size. The outlets are in inconvenient places not near the beds, but this is probably due to the hotel being from the 60s. This hotel is in an excellent location, close to Times Square and a short subway ride to everything in the city. Be warned, at check-in you must pay a mandatory $50 per day 'service fee'. This could add up if your stay is lengthy or if you didn't expect the fee. I think 6.5 or 7/10 would be a fair score but since the rating is out of 5 I have to give a 3. Overall I probably would stay here again considering the value for money and location
