St. Joseph Plantation is not a museum. It is the story of people who have lived and worked this land for generations, and still do! There are some 20th century updates (ceiling fans, for example) to the house which help tell the story and give a picture of a home that the antiques alone could never do. Hannah was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastically shared her enthusiasm for St. Joseph. Don't miss the series of "sugar kettles" that were used in the processing of the sugar cane!

We were privileged to experience the Midnight Mourning Tour, which was fantastic. Although it was difficult to navigate transportation so late at night, it was well worth the effort. Our host was so knowledgeable and it was refreshing to hear the history of this grand plantation throughout the tour. We even enjoyed a special treat from the lovely Satsuma tree near the plantation's entrance! I hear there are some exciting offerings at Christmas soon to be available. We will certainly return!

We toured both homes, and thoroughly enjoyed the tours. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. They took their time, did not rush us and answered all of our questions. We highly recommend taking these tours, but be sure to bring cash if you plan to tip. There’s no ATM on site.
