Description

North Myrtle Beach Area Historical Museum promotes a strong sense of community pride and fosters an appreciation for our place in the region's rich history.

After eight years of planning, North Myrtle Beach Historical Museum opened on April 7, 2013. The Museum's mission is to foster a deeper appreciation for culture, history, and science of the North Myrtle Beach area. Exhibits and programs focus on stories from the region's first inhabitants to the development of today's tourism industry.

NMB Museum has brought HOPE to the Grand Strand. Visit the Museum before September 18 to see the blockbuster exhibit Bob Hope: An American Treasure. Witness the early days of his career until his last performances. Laugh at his jokes. Remember how the Guinness Book's most "honored" man brought comedy to America and to the world.

Although Bob Hope: An American Treasure has been exhibited in Denver, CO, New Orleans, LA, Green Bay, WI, and Greenwich, England, the exhibit has never been seen on the east coast. North Myrtle Beach Area Historical Museum is honored to host the exhibit in South Carolina.

The Bob Hope: An American Treasure exhibit is presented by the World Golf Hall of Fame. The exhibit chronicles Bob Hope's story through first-person comedy, combining anecdotes, quotes, jokes and stories from all aspects of his life. The exhibit includes more than 170 artifacts, 200 vintage photos, and seven video displays that examine Hope's early years as part of an immigrant family; his rise as a star of stage, screen and radio; the relationships he had with U.S. presidents; his devotion to the U.S. military; and his love of golf.

Bob Hope: An American Treasure is presented in North Myrtle Beach through the generosity of the Bob and Delores Hope Foundation. Local sponsors are the City of North Myrtle Beach, Alligator Adventure, Elliott Realty, Grand Strand Dining Group, and the North Myrtle Beach Times.

Other reviews talked about a lot of Bob Hope stuff well now it is all about Shag dancing and it's history. For those that don't know about the shag or care about it, you should not go. One area is art work from one person. One tiny area had some antique tools. Only 4.00 for seniors now. The Conway Museum which is free is excellent and worth the trip.

I wish that there was a more interactive environment, but the history of North Myrtle Beach should be shared. They definitely need more funding and community events and hope they get the support they need.

A absolute great idea for this area with so much history. The museum itself is lacking great displays. The information is great to read about but they really need to work on making it better. A definite must see if you want to learn about history, just don't expect the museum norm.

"Only Bob Hope stuff on display now"

We went here because we always enjoy seeing museums and history of places we visit. It sounded neat, so we went. At this time, they only have Bob Hope items on display. The lady was very nice and directed us to the Horry County Museum in Conway, which was much bigger. The few things this small museum had on display were charming.

"A Hidden Treasure in N Myrtle Beach!"

Great museum! One of the previous reviews stated that the current "Bob Hope Exhibit was all there was". I guess this person did not realize that there is a separate room that houses the local exhibits that are temporarily condensed to make room for the Bob Hope Exhibit, which is usually shown at much larger museums. These will be moved back to their normal locations following this exhibit. The helpful staff was more than happy to explain these local treasures as well as the Bob Hope Exhibit!
