Description

Come fly with us and experience the romance and adventure of flying in an open cockpit biplane! Take a nostalgic flight into yesteryear in an authentic Waco Biplane with a modern day Barnstormer. Breathtaking birds-eye views of the Great Smoky Mountains and the surrounding area provide an incredible photo opportunity. All ages are welcome and two can fly for the price of one, so bring a friend and share the fun.

The airplane is a 1927 Waco Model 10 Straightwing, pronounced “Wah-Co” like taco. “Way-Co” is a town in Texas.

The experience is like riding in a time machine that takes you back to the Golden Age of Aviation. Where you can touch the fabric that holds you aloft, smell the oil and hear the roar of a radial engine as you fly with the wind blowing through your hair. Unlike an aircraft in a museum, roped off from the public, you can climb aboard this airplane and experience what it was like to be a Barnstormer from a bygone era!

Excellent way to see the area. The pilot knew every detail about the plane (I think he restored the whole thing that’s why) and you can tell he meticulously maintains the aircraft from the fluids to the paint. You can see how he takes pride in it and wow, what a nice plane it is. When it starts you can tell it’s in top shape. It has nice upholstery that adds to the nostalgic look and feel of the aircraft. The propeller is a work of art in itself. The takeoff was smooth and once we reached cruise altitude he would tell us what we were looking at off to the sides and below, but he wouldn’t overly talk or anything like some tour operators do on other types of tours. He just informed us what we were looking at during different times of the trip and let us enjoy the sound of the engine, propeller and the scenery with the wind and just let us take it all in. It was a nice day so everything went as good as can be. For the most part he kept the plane steady, but when he banked to right or left it was barely noticeable and smooth like a glider. You can just tell the pilot knows his plane in and out by the way he handles it. The landing was perfect, buttery smooth I don’t think a plane could land much easier than that, it just eased down. It’s not a long drive to get there and even if it was, it’s worth it. There are helicopter tours and things like that, but I can tell you that taking a helicopter tour can’t compare to this. The sound of the engine, the sound of the propeller and wind in an open cockpit. It doesn’t get any better. Pilot was a real pro and great tour operator. The whole tour was very memorable.

My husband and I were celebrating our 10 year anniversary and saw the brochure. Riding in a biplane has ALWAYS been a dream of mine. I’ve seen other tours offered in various places and couldn’t justify the cost for the time in the air. The prices here were very reasonable and it was an experience I’ll never forget! The feeling is indescribable and the views were phenomenal. The pilot is was so nice and did a great job pointing out things below. I even got a tattoo to commemorate my bucket list item and trip afterwards. 10/10 definitely recommend and can’t wait to do it again some day.

Mark was very pleasant and easy to speak with. We did a 30 min ride on a beautiful day. We felt 100 percent safe and loved the ride. Mark is expert pilot we can tell. He had perfect takeoff and landing and we were able to have our phone to take pics and video and left with a shirt snd very cool hat. I would recommend doing this when you go to Gatlinburg area it was the hilite of our trip !

This is a "once in a life time" must do experience!!! To ride in an open air plane alone is amazing, but to do it in the Smoky Mountains is simply amazing... Words, truly can't describe the experience. The owner of this business is the pilot and his passion for flying is evident but his love for this plane amazing. The pilot will point out landmarks and you can communicate and ask questions during the flight via headset. The view is so amazing that you just may forget to ask questions! I know you may look at the price versus time ratio, but I'm telling you that this experience IS worth every cent!!!

My teen sons flew with the owner/pilot, who was very professional and courteous. We called for same day flight availability before leaving our cabin for the day and my sons were flying about 45 minutes later. They said the flight was the highlight of our Smoky Mountain vacation. The airport was also located next to Warbirds Tennessee Museum of Aviation, which we visited afterward.
