"If you need wifi don't stay here!"

There is no wifi! They claim they have it, even call it high speed. It is spotty service at best and its part of the daily fee you are charged. Staff is aware of the problem but their hands are tied because they cannot fix it. My phone stayed on emergency calls only whenever I was in my room.

"Rustic Comfort Near Colonial Williamsburg: Our Stay at Woodlands Hotel & Suites"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5
Reviewed May 31, 2025 NEW
We enjoyed a stay at Williamsburg Woodlands Hotel & Suites in Virginia for 3 nights (Mon, May 26 - Wed, May 28, 2025). Upon arrival we were given an exceptionally friendly welcome at the front desk. We paid $338 and made our booking directly with the hotel via their website. Upon checking in we paid a further $60 + tax as a Resort Fee. We also had a $200 hold put on our credit card as a deposit for the duration of our stay (this is normal in American hotels and it is typically refunded after you check out). We were emailed a voucher, which we redeemed in the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center next door, giving us dated lanyards for free access to Colonial Williamsburg. For our short stay, we did not make good use of these, as we went off-property exploring a lot of the time. The style of the rooms at the Woodlands Hotel had a ‘rustic charm’, ideally matching the location: we were surrounded by trees and greenery. Our suite on the 3rd floor had a TV room with a sofa, chair, two tables, a bathroom and shower, a bedroom with a TV, plus there was a kitchen area with fridge and microwave. There was no room safe, which we often find in hotels off the beaten track where the guests are mostly domestic. The free WiFi was frustrating and we struggled with it when in the bedroom area of our suite. On the first morning when we went to use the steam iron, we followed our routine of testing it out on a towel. Luckily, we did so as a brown, sticky sludge came out of the iron, staining the towel. It smelt like burnt toffee! We can only assume it was Coca-Cola. After about 15 minutes of ironing the towel and pressing the steam button, we eventually got the iron clean. Weird! After a busy first day exploring Colonial Williamsburg, we returned to our suite looking forward to resting in a refreshed room, but discovered that housekeeping hadn’t serviced it. Fortunately, we noticed the towel store room at the end of the hall was open, so we trekked back and grabbed some fresh towels ourselves. Thankfully, the next day the room was serviced as expected, so we are not sure what went wrong on Day 1. GOOD STUFF ABOUT THE WOODLANDS HOTEL & SUITES 👍 Super-friendly staff 👍 Spacious suite 👍 Continental breakfast included 👍 Complimentary access to Colonial Williamsburg 👍 Free use of the WATA bus on the Colonial route (No. 15) 👍 Within walking distance of Amtrak (1 mile) if you didn’t want to wait for the Colonial bus NOT SO GOOD 👎 Slow WiFi (so slow, it was not worth using; streaming even short clips was a no no) 👎 Shower - powerful but had to run it for several minutes until the hot water came through We took advantage of the complimentary breakfast. Typically on offer were: cereals, toast, breaded items, milks, yogurts, juices, coffee, cold boiled eggs and some sweet cakes. You could help yourself from the buffet and we noticed there was a gluten-free section. We enjoyed our stay at the Woodlands Hotel & Suites and would recommend it to anyone visiting the substantial attractions of the Colonial Williamsburg living history museum.

"It's ok...fun for kids"

Great outdoor area with lots of space for the kids to play and have fun. It's very dated, feels old, rooms were clean but very old with a humid strange smell. the mattresses were uncomfortable. That being said the kids had lots of fun but I wouldn't go back there.
