Jack, our tour guide, made the event fantastic! He knew the area very well and provided a ton of excellent stories and information about Boston that I wouldn't have otherwise heard. We went to a wide variety of restaurants and got a real sense for Boston--especially the North End

"Good food but Don’t expect to go inside the restaurants or learn history"

If you want to see the restaurant from a distance and learn no history, this tour is for you. We always seek out food tours and have done them in most major cities in the US as it’s an excellent way to get history and learn more about the unique things in the city. This was by far our worst experience and most expensive one. Our guide was very nice but he has only been shadowing other tours for this week and we were his first solo tour. He was personable but lacked knowledge of the history of Boston. Our tour asked about the history of Boston Baked Beans, architecture of the area, and even if you could go inside Paul Reveres house which he didn’t know the answer to any. It seemed as though the tour company gave him a tour but didn’t give him any facts to discuss. Out of the 3.5 hour tour, I felt like I talked to other people on the trip more than he talked. At the very least, he should be given information about the restaurants we went to. He knew the most about the Oyster House but then we sat inside the Haymarket for over an hour while he went to get our food from 3 different vendors. Half of the tour was sitting in the Haynarket. Unfortunately for us, we did the tour during the Feast of St Anthony. One of our stops was behind a security checkpoint so we didn’t get to go to the restaurant. We stood along the sidewalk while our tour guide procured our pizza and then we walked to a nearby park to eat it. We were forced to imagine the 150 year old stove and atmosphere of this pizza place. At our last stop, Modern Bakery, we again stood outside while he got our cannoli and then we walked to the end of the block to eat it. I appreciated tasting this delicious cannoli without having to stand in line but I’ve never spent so much time outside of the restaurants never getting to go inside. The website promises expert guides who will give you lots of history, talk about the spots on the freedom trail, explanation of the cannoli wars and great food. Our tour was none of that. He didn’t even mention the freedom trail. We saw Paul Reveres house but only learned it’s 85% original and was purchased by Paul Reveres great grandson who restored it. And we were only told the cannoli wars between modern bakery and mikes exist. Not why, how they got started, or what actually makes them a war. A cup of clam chowder, a mini donut, a half of pastrami sandwich, a third of a lobster roll, a slice of a small pizza, and a mini cannoli with a handful of facts I could have pulled up with a google search for $110. And I could’ve done a lot more in Boston with that 3.5 hours. Save yourself the money and skip this tour.

Aidan was a great guide. Gave us bits of history along the way and we had great food. The lobster roll was the favorite. Loved the experience. It was a great way to be exposed to more restaurants and food. We live in Western Massachusetts and don’t get to Boston very often and it gave us the opportunity to try places we haven’t been to. Definitely would go back.
