Residence Inn by Marriott East Rutherford Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ

From check in till check out (12 nights) myself and my other half found the staff to be friendly and welcoming, when we asked for small things that we needed such as ice etc it was provided for us, they gave us great instructions on how to get around to New York, the American dream mall etc, breakfast was always good, rotated, and did the job. All the amenities in the room were great and the bed was fantastic. Although this hotel was placed in an industrious neighborhood, we found the bus stop to be very conveniently placed, to be able to move around and get back around afterwards. All in all I would happily stay here again.

Check in was fast but confusing. We were in town for a family member’s funeral so when we were a few hours away I called the hotel to inquire about a two bedroom suite so that we could host a friend coming in from out of town as well. Over the phone I was told it would be an additional $600 per night. When we arrived I asked the same question in person and was told it would be an addition $2500 for the week. We declined because we could have gotten an addition studio suite for less. Although the staff for the most part was helpful and courteous that is far as it went with the hotel. I say for the most part because one of the guys would not even speak when spoken to. During check in we did not receive the bag with the two bottles of water that has been customary when checking in at Marriott hotels. In fact I did not see water out the entire week here. During past stays at this location I would have given the location five stars but now I would not give them more than two stars. Their choices for breakfast left a lot to be desired. We either went to the Candlewick Diner a mile away or bought danish from a local supermarket for breakfast. The lobby and dining area were clean but that is as far as it goes. The hallway the entire week was in need of a good vacuum cleaning. In the room the dishwasher was broken and needed to be repaired which was taken care of quickly. The ceiling above the bed was black from dust around the HVAC vent. The bathroom was disgusting. Outside was not any better, they have a water leak that has not been repaired. I brought it to the attention of the front desk and they were unaware of it or they did not care. I tend to think it is the later because of the trash and cigarette butts thrown everywhere. At first I did not think much of the trash because I gave them the benefit of the doubt even with glass beer bottles being part of the trash. Day two the same trash was there, day three the same trash was still there and on day seven the same including the beer bottles. I had to go to the front desk and tell them about a broken bottle on the sidewalk. The second time I picked up a piece big enough to have sent someone to the emergency room if they had stepped on it. Even after telling them twice exactly where to find it I still had to walk the employee over and point it out. I took several pictures if anyone from corporate is interested. I really don’t feel it is my job to point out all of the issues to management. Maybe management should get out walk around and even randomly check rooms. It is very apparent that cleanliness is not a priority of the staff or management. Have stayed at many Marriott hotels and this one many times over the years and our stays have always been nice including this location. That is why we chose to return. I expected much better. During my next trip to the area I will be staying somewhere else, possibly the Holiday Inn less than a mile away. I have stayed at the Residence Inn located in Santee, SC twice in the past 60 days and this location could take some tips from them. On my way back to Florida we are staying at the Residence Inn located in Myrtle Beach and on Jekyll Island in GA. I hope those stays are much better.

This is a Residence Inn in East Rutherford, NJ. I say it like that because you need to know that’s what you’re getting—it’s a low-mid-priced chain hotel in a commercial part of NJ, but for being that, it’s quite great. The rooms are clean and the staff is beyond helpful, we had all sorts of requests and questions and they’re so happy to help. We were in the area for a Beyoncé concert and it was perfect for that, about a mile away with bus access and a $10 Lyft to MetLife (note you cannot walk there, it’s illegal). It rained all concert and the staff had extra towels for us and even ponchos to buy ahead of the show. We bought drinks from the lobby and ordered pizza as we got ready and none of it bothered anyone, they even helped take all our group photos before we left. The two bedroom suite was great space for four people—room was Midwest size not NYC size :). and it was super easy fro bus NJ Transit into Manhattan from across the street. If you have a reason to be right there in NJ, happily recommend this place!

Hotel was VERY clean and staff was wonderful! Ann and Camilla who were running the Continental breakfast were just so sweet and wonderful! They heard it was my daughters friends birthday and made her a special treat and sang happy birthday!

Although I highly recommend this hotel .I suggest that you provide the Columbian food manager with the proper training she needs to improve her customer service skills because she has a very rude and nasty attitude. Last, due to proper protocols I believe that she should wear a hair net so that her long hair will not contaminate the food. Other than that the rest of the staff were amazing and I will be back.
