One thing that most of us amateur photographers never get is feedback from professional photographers. The feedback we do get is often from friends or family that likely have less skill than we do. I have been attending monthly online critique sessions with with Chris and Bonnie Allen, and wow, what a difference it has made in my work! I have stopped making consistent mistakes, opened new ways of seeing, and significantly improved my editing skills. In the online Zoom calls with a few photographers, Bonnie, and Chris, the friendly group reviews about 5 photos from each photographer. The focus is on the positive attributes of each image, which is rewarding. Then there is discussion on how the image might be made even stronger or made stronger. Often Chris will take your image into Adobe Lightroom and make those edits online so you can see the improvement. If you really want to kick start your photography, these critiques are "must do" and are very reasonably priced. What are you waiting for???

“The 1 ½ hour online Zoom critique sessions offered by Chris and Bonnie are excellent. Besides getting the needed “pats on the back” for my photos, they also offered me their years of experience as professional photographers in critiquing and even doing some online Lightroom editing to show me how to take a pretty good photograph and make it an outstanding one. But the best part? I’m getting all this for only $15 a session!” – Linda Davidson, Tyler, TX

Frequently Asked Questions about Landscapes & Waterfalls Photography Experience

What is a photo tour?

Photo tours are half-day or full-day, hands on photography excursions led by Bonnie or Chris Allen. You will visit the best spots for stunning photography depending on weather and seasonal conditions. Your guides provide individualized and group instruction based on skill level and interests. You drive your own car and meet with your guide(s) at a predetermined location. Tour participants are notified of meeting location in the week prior to your tour date.

Who should attend?

Tours are intended for photographers of all levels from beginner to advanced. If you want to explore the beauty of the Asheville and Blue Ridge area to create more exciting images, these tours are for you. Participants should be in reasonable physical condition and able to handle short (under one mile) hikes with your camera gear.

Are children allowed?

Please no children or pets. Adolescents who have a camera and a strong interest in photography are welcome as a registered participant.

Is hiking involved?

The tour operator chooses locations where you can spend most of the time practicing your photography. Most of the stops will be along the roadside. In some cases, a short hike of less than a mile may be required to get to the best spot. You will be in wilderness areas, so it is important to dress for maximum comfort and safety. Wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots, long pants, layers and rain gear to cover changing weather conditions. Be sure to bring adequate water and snacks for your own comfort.

What kind of camera gear do I need to bring?

Asheville Photo Tours wants to help you have more fun and make better photos regardless of the sophistication of your camera gear. Bring what you have along with your manual (if you still have it). The tour guide will help you learn how to use your camera gear, and make more impactful photos. Of course, your results can be enhanced if you have gear that allows more control over camera settings such as aperture, exposure and focusing. If you have them, they strongly suggest polarizing filters and a sturdy tripod.
