"Almost not as bad as you thought it would be"

I thought this place was going to be terrible, and dreaded the kid soccer tournament that brought me here. When I arrived, though, it didn’t seem nearly as bad as I expected. And then the wheels fell off. We booked and were charged for a two-bedroom suite, but when my family of four went to the room we discovered it was a one-BR suite. They don’t have any more rooms, and had let another family upgrade to our room the night before. So the four of us were forced to cram into a tiny suite. Oh, and the room smells like a urinal cake. I had some time to kill, so I hit the gym. I was excited they had a Peloton; many far nicer hotels do not. And it was even in decent shape! But the gym was 73 degrees with the thermostat locked to prevent guests from changing it to an appropriate temperature. And, smooth jazz played from the speakers. Smooth jazz?! There were only two towels in the gym, and I worked up such a sweat in the gym’s stifling heat that I used both. And they were very scratchy and non-absorbent. My wife asked the front desk to make up the couch bed, but her request was ignored. I went down to check on the status and both women behind the desk disclaimed any knowledge of such a request. My wife came down to the front desk and had to set them straight. 15 or so min later we are informed that the housekeeping staff had left for the day (they apparently leave at 3pm, so if you need housekeeping services after that time you’re screwed). One of two elevators was out of service, which led to unbearable waiting, other parents on the team reported. There was coin-operated laundry, which is good for soccer teams playing in nearby tournaments. Although where my wife found coins I haven’t a clue. If you have a choice, don’t stay here. If you don’t, which was our scenario, you’ll survive and be even more grateful to be home at the end of your trip. For context, I typically stay in 5-star hotels when I travel. If 2-3 stars is your jam, this may suit.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We stayed at this hotel from May 16th through the 18th for my nephews graduation from William & Mary. We arrived on Friday the 16th early, around 1:30pm. We were told our room wasn't ready and to come back in and hour and half. No problem, we went to see my nephew and to a few shops. We arrived back at the hotel at 3pm and were told our room was still not ready and it would be another hour. Mind you the graduation started at 5pm and we had to shower and get ready. There were 6 of us in the party and we rented the double room suite. Panic starts to set in. We wait in the lobby for over an hour and then were handed a keycard to the 5th floor. There was only ONE elevator working at the time so the wait was crazy. We FINALLY get up to the room and it's a SINGLE! Back downstairs we go and were told we were given the wrong room. After waiting another 10 minutes for the ONE elevator, we finally make it to the room. Running late for the graduation, my father and I ended up not making it because the handicap area was closed off. My father is 84 with limited mobility. We dropped off my brother and his family so they could atleast attend. Back to the hotel we go. We get back up to the room and realize the air conditioner was leaking onto the carpet. At t his point we didn't even care because we were exhausted. After the ceremony, my father and I went to meet the rest of the family for dinner. We waited by the ONE elevator for a good 15 minutes before someone told us it was not working. So now the one working elevator was broken. My disabled father had to walk up and down 6 flights of stairs for the next 3 days because the elevator didn't work. How can a property owned by HILTON let it get in such bad shape?? On the last night of our stay, the air conditioner didn't work so we were in hot, humid rooms. I have never had such a horrible experience at any hotel ever. The front desk staff was less than helpful and didn't offer any solutions. No one was able to help carry our luggage down the 6 flights of stairs on the day we checked out. This was one of the higher priced hotels in the area and was in the worst shape. I will never stay at another Embassy Suites because of this experience.

"Great location and amenities, but building needs updates"

We recently stayed at this Embassy Suites during a spring break family trip. While we appreciated many aspects of our stay, there are definitely areas that could use improvement. The complimentary breakfast was a highlight — plenty of options, made-to-order omelets, and a nice seating area. The bar and evening reception were also a pleasant bonus after long days out. Our kids especially enjoyed the indoor pool, which was a fun way to wind down. That said, the building is definitely showing its age. Only one elevator was working during our stay, and it was being used by both guests and staff, which made for frustrating waits — especially since we were on one of the upper floors. The room itself was on the smaller side for a suite and felt worn, from the furniture to the fixtures. Despite these issues, the staff was friendly and the location was very convenient for everything we had planned in Williamsburg. With some needed renovations, this hotel could easily be a 5-star experience.

My wife and I booked this hotel for our 40th Anniversary! Thought it would be a nice, quiet, romantic getaway...I requested an arrival between 2 and 3 pm...tho it was noted, it was not honored...so I had to go drive around Williamsburg until 4 (and I did not feel well) Checked in at 4 with another clerk, who was VERY friendly and personable .Hotel was SPOTLESS! Amenities are awesome..everything was perfect...until the tour buses showed up with 300 teenagers.....no need to elaborate...they behaved, but here was NO WAY to get the breakfast in the morning without all the noise and feeling like being in a high school cafeteria...really did not enjoy my stay at all....my timing was bad, that's all...otherwise , hotel was perfect...didn't know Spring Break was that early

Very nice staff however the environment fell short. Do not get room 101!! The room and a few more past it border the pool. I mean right on the indoor pool deck. We had kids screaming and yelling until 9:45 when they shut the pool down 15 minutes early. We could not even hear the TV because of the noise. Very poorly designed hotel room layout. Yes, the building is 40 years old and they probably thought it was a good idea when they designed it back then, but it is not. TV in the main bedroom did not work, maintenance came and looked and said the TV's bed. The port was loose in the back and they didn't have any more. He was able to rig it along. We didn't touch the TV that it would work seems to me they would've known about this TV not working before now. The breakfast was pretty good. Had a very nice lady working the omelette station. What I stay here again? It kind of just depends. I would probably look for more updated building since there are a lot of hotels in the area.
