We came to Crown Reef for a birthday party at the waterpark. The pools and lazy river were well maintained, and the temperature was comfortable. We had excellent service from Venessa Reid. She was very friendly and helpful in navigating the property. She’s a true asset to your resort.

"Once Loyal Guests — Never Again"

My wife, son, and I have been loyal guests of Crown Reef Resort since 2012. Over the past 13 years, we have visited two to three times each year. For many years, our experiences were excellent the service, room quality, no complaints. Unfortunately, over the last three to four years, the quality of the resort has declined significantly, and our most recent stay was especially disappointing. We arrived about 10 days ago on a Sunday at approximately 1:30 p.m. As we have done in the past, we requested the middle tower. In prior years, if a room was not yet ready, the staff would take our information and call us once one became available. This time, however, the front desk agent informed us that there was now an “early check-in fee.” When I asked for clarification, she was new and did not know the details. I asked her to please call us when a room was available. By nearly 3:00 p.m., we still had not received a call, so we returned to the front desk. The same agent explained that housekeeping staff were short and still running behind, and rooms were not ready. She then offered a room in another tower, once again mentioning the early check in fee. While waiting, I had checked the resort’s website and found no mention of such a charge. We had never once been charged extra when a room was available early. I asked to speak with a manager, but it took quite some time before one was located. Unfortunately, the manager (LaToyua Long) was unprofessional and dismissive. Basically, we were told we had only two options: pay the fee or cancel our stay but still be charged for one night. This conversation happened in front of my son, not the way anyone should have to begin their fall break vacation. After driving more than 600 miles with my family, exhausted, we felt we had no real choice but to pay the fee in order to get into a room. The issues continued after check-in. The shower had almost no water pressure. We called maintenance twice, but nothing improved, so we eventually gave up. When we requested housekeeping service to freshen the room, we were told it required 48 hours’ notice. When we asked for towels, it took multiple calls each day before they were delivered. Beyond that, the overall maintenance quality has declined from the upkeep of the rooms to the general condition of the property. Combined with reduced housekeeping service, the resort no longer feels well cared for. This will be our last visit to Crown Reef. While staying, we toured nearby resorts along Ocean Boulevard and spoke with their front desk staff. They welcomed us to view their pools and rooms, which were far better maintained, more affordable, and had no hidden “junk fees.” There are clearly much better options in Myrtle Beach.

We had a great time staying at crown reef. We usually go in July but could only go in September this year so it was quite there. Not very many people in the water park and we had to get used to the off season. Darlene the bartender at lo gecko was amazing. We love her, she always was smiling and made us feel welcomed. We were on the 12th floor in tower 2 and the view was amazing. Room needs a little updating but we are only in there to sleep. Weather was amazing. And one thing we love is it's not a far walk to the beach.
