Courtyard by Marriott Myrtle Beach Oceanfront in Myrtle Beach, SC

We had stayed north of MB (in NC) for the week and wanted one more day at the beach. We arrived early and our room was not ready. We got our wristbands, changed in the lobby restrooms (very nice) and went down to the beach. Around 230 we were notified by the hotel that the room was ready but we didn't check in until the beach service pulled our chairs at 4:30p. We checked in and the room was GREAT. Pristine actually. I was impressed and that is unusal. We booked an extra spacious 2 Queen Suite. It was very roomy with a sitting area and large balcony. The bathroom was super spacious too. Instead of unloading our stuff and wasting precious outside time, we decided to wait and hang out by the pools. First a trip to the bar. This was the worst and the biggest reason I gave our stay 3 stars instead of 5. The bartender was awful. He actually did not speak/acknowledge me -- ever -- he would speak to my niece and daughter. They ordered virgin drinks and it took forever to get our bill to sign. I'm a great tipper -- I did not tip and I NEVER do that. Oh well his loss -- LITERALLY. The pools were clean relative to the fact they had 9 million people in them. And this was around 5:00 PM. We sailed around the lazy river a while . It was HEAVILY chlorinated....had to be. The kids are unsupervised and roudy. One kid literally tried taking my water shoes off of my feet. Not kidding. Not sure what the hotel could do about that. I think the point is here -- the pool area is simply not big enough for the tower(s) it services. The lazy river, kids area and pool is shared with the Breakers Resort. There are far too many people for the square footage of space. I cannot imagine at 1:00 pm -- what it was like. We ended up back on the beach in chairs that were left behind by people until around 8:00 PM. The beach is great and peaceful and enough space. The rest of our stay was fine. We didn't have any issues. Plenty of towels, plenty of space to put our luggage. Beds were comfortable. A small mini-fridge, microwave and safe were in the room. The view was insane and the chairs on the balcony were nice. We checked out at 10:00 on the app. Parking is across the street and is $20 / day. You can bill drinks to your room if you're staying at the hotel.

Both Ginny and Jhoselin Ventura (sp?) were excellent! Provided friendly service with extra attention to helping us. Always greeting us when we came in the door. We all need more people like this! Please recognize their service. (We were some old golfers that needed help on our bill. They took extra time assisting us!)

Kenyetta was fabulous at checking-the property is lovely and the view is amazing. Wonderful room and accommodations! First rate!

Overall, the quality of the staff, and of the job they do, is hit and miss. Multiple issues negatively affected our stay: - A couple of curt front desk staff, one of whom didn't acknowledge my presence while she chatted with someone 30 feet away (and I was the only customer at the desk). When she finally did help me, it seemed I was impinging on her day. - Housekeeping didn't clean the room on half the days we were there - No towels at the pool on one of the days (we were able to get towels by walking over to the Springhill side) - Filthy lounge chairs (not all but more than a few) - The bathroom door scraped along the floor tiles and made it difficult (and noisy) to open and close it On the positive side, it's a new building, the lobby design is beautiful and expansive, the elevators arrive quickly, and the location is great.

Hotel has a great location that is close enough to everything without being to close. The pool area is a little to crowded for our taste but the beach directly in front is very nice. Staff was very friendly and helpful, in particular Will the valet when you first pull up in your vehicle and also Tracy at the bar on the 2nd floor. Both are huge assets to this property.
