"Six Flags Darien Lake – A Nostalgic Favourite That Still Delivers"

I’ve been coming to Darien Lake since I was a kid, so this park holds a lot of nostalgia for me—and I was so glad I finally got to share it with my wife this time around! It’s always been a charming, manageable park with reasonable wait times. You can easily hit both the amusement park and the waterpark in one day, which is a huge win. Compared to Canada’s Wonderland—which I also grew up going to—we definitely prefer Darien Lake now. Wonderland’s crowds are out of control, and it’s just not worth the hassle anymore. At Darien Lake, you actually get your money’s worth. The coaster lineup is solid for a smaller park, with highlights being: 🎢 Ride of Steel 🎢 Tantrum 🎢 Viper 🎢 The Predator Plus lots of other fun rides scattered throughout the park. As for the waterpark, it was just okay this time. The Lazy River is fairly basic, and two popular slides were running closed, causing a little congestion in other areas. Not sure why, but the water was freezing cold, especially on slides like Tornado—still a great ride, but would’ve been more enjoyable with slightly warmer water. Yes, the park is a bit dated in areas and could use some TLC, but despite that, Darien Lake continues to be a lovable and worthwhile spot. Whether you’re going for nostalgia or just want a fun, full day without the chaos of bigger parks, this place still hits. Next time I’ll show my wife the hotel on site, because I used to love staying there as well!

"Low crowds. LONG LINES!!!"

Go elsewhere. Each ride only had one car. 8-10 minute per rotation. Even short lines took long. The big coasters should operate more efficiently. Line jumping was a problem and people got irritated. A few conflicts. This park is really awful.

"Oh that Six Flags Experience"

I took the family of four(two kids 15 and 12) this past weekend, as an add-on to a Weird Al concert at the Darien Lake Amphitheater. The park itself is a charming mid-sized amusement park with connected water park. It's got some interesting coasters and other decent rides. This review will focus more on the park experience than the ride experience. The rides are good and fine. Nothing about the rides will ruin your day or elevate it past the issues this place has. Namely: lines and food prices. The lines are somewhat impossible to overcome unless you pay extra for the fast pass. We went on a day where I'd say the park was half full to slightly less than half full - the kind of crowd where you start imagining the ability to ride and re-ride over and over again whatever you want. This did not happen. Instead, lines were relatively short, but the rides operated one car instead of two, and the load times were interminable. Any other park I've been to with a line that short would be 10 minutes, tops. Darien Lake(now under Six Flags mgmt) somehow turned these into 45 minute lines. With no shade. My children were miserable - this is sort of the opposite experience you want for these things, so take note. At one point we were in line for Tantrum, which is a one-car eight-seat coaster, operating one train of course, when it launched with four people in it. The ride time is about 30 seconds and the very empty line took 55 minutes. We managed to avoid most of the nickel and diming by having concert tix, which allowed for free parking and entry to the park. Otherwise we would have had to pay $30 for GA parking in Corfu NY, a place with no public transportation or any other way to get to the park. Just add it to the ticket ffs. When lunch came I checked my trusty Six Flags app and saw that all of the pizza places offered whole pizzas as an option. I went to the pizza stand and ordered a whole plain, and was told "we don't do that anymore," but I could by a slice and drink combo meal for $18.99. My son saw a corn dog he wanted for $22. We decided to leave the park to grab lunch instead and passed numerous families eating out of the trunks of their cars. Corfu, NY is nearish Buffalo, but our food options where pretty scarce. There was a bakery, a pizza place that only offered takeout, a pizza place that had no AC, a bar that didn't serve food until 5PM, and a gas station. We ate at the gas station because it had AC and multiple food options. Again, it's $30 to park at Darien Lake, which is near all of this. The water park was nice, with seamless entry/exit, but lines again too long. Our family had more fun at the water park than the amusement park. Anyways, it was fine but needlessly aggravating. If employees were allowed to pick you up and shake you upside down until all the loose change fell out, they would be enouraged to do so. It's my fault for thinking a Six Flags park would be different. The Tim Hortons at the front of the park offers pastries for like $3, easily the best deal in the park. For the gouging and the lines, I would not recommend this place.

"WORST PARK EVER!!"

You mean 1 Flags Darien Lake? Worst park of all the Six Flags & Cedar Fair chain. Yes, worse than 'Six Flags Elitch Gardens'. It is so disrespectful when parks prematurely open for the season. The parks collection certainly isn't impressive, kind of like an all or nothing without Superman. Yes, those are still water dummies on their 4th day of the season/operations on a 26 year old well-established coaster... what a joke!!
