Wonderful old school experience. Staff is friendly, responsive and room is comfy and quiet. Stayed 3 nights and loved it. The parlor in the lobby offered fruits, cookies and coffee and guests could meet and converse. Hope they boost the temperature on the coffee. It's location is at a free shuttle stop to make it easy to get uptown or down to Bay street. The restaurant is perfect for breakfast or dinner.

Having never been to Charleston before we truly were not sure of which hotel to pick for our long awaited girls weekend. I typically enjoy modern or renovated accommodations. I realize that many hotels in Charleston are historic. There seems to be a great deal of modernization needed at Planters Inn. Pros: location - while not in the robust shopping area of King Street and the Bennett Hotel, both are within walking distance. The hotel is directly across from the market and about a half a mile down to the water. Lots of beautiful walking in the area! Cons: rooms definitely need a refresh. The only mirrors available are in the bathroom, which, when traveling with other women can make getting ready more challenging. The time of day that the room is serviced is highly variable. One day it was serviced at 4 PM and the other day it was serviced around noon time. The TV is small and old and there is no guide. The room where the concierge sits has an older feel to it. There is coffee and tea and some packaged cheese snacks. It would’ve been nice to have some freshly baked cookies or a fruit along with a filled water container. By the way, there are only two small paper containers of water in each room, so you may want to bring your own. Our travel agent purchased a bottle of Prosecco for us, but the staff never brought it to us until the night before we were leaving because they forgot. Overall, it was not a bad day, but not impressive. Of course you’re not really in your room much during a stay in Charleston so it did not put a damper on our trip, just some things to consider for yours. Next time we would stay at the Bennett or Emeline.

Can’t beat the location. Walking distance to most attractions. Rooms have extra sound proofing on the windows so noise from the marketplace and traffic are minimal. Strong A/C. Decent coffee in the rooms ans lobby.

This hotel’s history and location where everything we had hoped for. We felt safe here. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Directly across from the daily market that sets up for shopping. Close to restaurants and walking to the pier or Rainbow row. The hotel does brag on its popular coconut cake. It’s worth the splurge to try it.
