"Not your Father's Hotel Room"

The reviews for hotel all say that the rooms are small. I went ahead and booked a room here, thinking, "They can't really be that small." Wrong. Rooms are teeeeny tiny. Not bad if you are alone in room. But if you are staying with someone else, you need to choregraph your movement around the room. They throw a chair in the room in an attempt to say, "Hey, look. There is plenty of space in here. We've got a chair." But the chair only takes away from the valuable floorspace. Bed was comfy. Lobby is lively at night with a bar as the centerpiece. There was a DJ on the Saturday night we stayed. Plenty of seating throughout and board & video games to entertain. We enjoyed playing a game of Scrabble while having a drink (I lost). We received a coupon for a free drink upon check in which we tried to cash in that night. We were not informed that the coupon is only good for a limited selection of drinks. Did not cover my Pacifico and my wife's Rum & Diet Coke. The American Comedy Co. is right across the street, thus reason for our stay. Hotel is a couple blocks from the heart of Gaslamp and Petco Park is an short walk. Valet was very friendly.

"Terrrible experience as a female solo traveler"

I had a deeply upsetting and traumatic experience at this hotel. From the moment I checked in, things started going wrong. The AC in my room was broken and extremely loud, I couldn’t turn it off. I reported it on the first day, but nothing was done, and the noise only got worse. I barely slept that night. The following night, the issue still wasn’t fixed. Thankfully, a kind female manager offered to move me to another room at midnight. It was inconvenient, but I agreed. I didn’t bring all of my belongings because I was told the AC would be fixed in the morning. But what happened the next morning was far worse. After breakfast, I returned to my original room to shower and get my things, and while I was coming out of the shower, a man entered my room without knocking or announcing himself. I was alone, undressed, and completely shocked. As a woman traveling by herself, this was absolutely terrifying. Minutes later, I received a call in the room from a manager named Luis, who aggressively asked, “Are you in that room or the other room?!” He didn’t apologize or show any concern. I was visibly shaken, trying to explain what had just happened, but he kept interrupting and speaking to me rudely, repeating, “I asked a simple question!” as if I had done something wrong. I was so distressed by how he spoke to me, with no empathy or professionalism, that I ended up crying and having a panic attack. When I went downstairs to speak with him in person, he continued to be extremely rude, again blaming me as if I had caused the situation. While some of the other managers were kind, Luis’s behavior completely ruined my trip. I felt unsafe, disrespected, and truly shaken. On top of all of that, I was told that rooms are cleaned every other day unless you specifically request daily cleaning, which I did, but no one ever came to clean the room. Just another example of the poor communication and lack of basic service. To make things worse, despite everything that happened, the hotel offered no real compensation for the stress, inconvenience, or violation of my privacy, just one breakfast voucher worth $15. That is absolutely not enough. I no longer felt comfortable staying at the hotel, and the experience made me question traveling solo altogether. I will never return to this hotel and strongly caution other solo travelers, especially women, to think twice before staying here.

"It's only great and fun if you travel solo!"

This is my second Moxy properties so I already know what to expect. Small but cozy room with limited amenities. I stayed here for about 3-nights but I enjoyed my stay. 1. Location: Located in Gaslamp area, where it's famous for great dining or places to hang out in San Diego. Not too far from the waterfront area also. Location-wise is decent, safe, and not difficult to find. Although if you travel with public transit, then it's difficult, but that is just San Diego in general where the city does not have good public transportation. 2. Lobby/Reception: Technically it's a bar/lounge area. It's very hip, designed to be communal, welcoming, yet not intimidating. Staffs are really welcoming and have good vibe. Although some seat in the bar has a fixed position (can't move them) and it's not that comfortable especially for tall people. Luckily there are other type of seating around the area. 3. Room: It's a hit and miss, some people may liking it, some may not. For me, honestly it works when I travel solo and for vacation. I will not choose this hotel if I travel with friends or business. Room is small, but again, for my current purpose of travel, it's cozy enough for me. I don't pack like crazy, so I had enough space for my luggage and other stuffs. Although I do understand some people may still like have more ample space even they travel solo. Good thing is that the room is clean, but quiet... well that is really depend on your neighbors: wall is thin. 4. Moxy Bar: I did have a few drinks in Moxy bar, I also ordered some snacks like the chicken tenders which is surprisingly good. Kudos again for all the staffs, they are really care about all type of guests. Overall, it's a good stay for me and I would love to comeback to this Moxy and try out other Moxys depending on the purpose of my travel.
