My stay at the hotel was excellent from start to finish. The property was exceptionally clean, well-maintained, and inviting. The staff members were warm, professional, and always ready to assist, which made me feel truly welcomed. The room was comfortable, and the overall atmosphere created a relaxing experience. However, I could not give a full five-star rating due to the high parking fee, which I felt was excessive compared to the value provided. Lowering or offsetting this cost would make an already wonderful stay even better and encourage me—and likely many others—to return in the future.

"Awful Experience – Erroneous $400 Smoking Charge"

I rarely write reviews, but my recent stay at the La Quinta in downtown San Antonio was so frustrating that I feel compelled to warn others. I was in town for a conference at the convention center and chose this hotel for its location—though there are plenty of other hotels nearby that I now wish I’d booked instead. When I checked in, I signed an agreement stating I’d be charged a $400 fee if I smoked in the room. As a non-smoker, I didn’t give it a second thought. Three days later, I checked out and requested my receipt by email. Hours later, I was stunned to find a $400 “smoking fee” added to my bill. I do not smoke—period. It took 10 days of daily calls before I was able to reach a live person, despite leaving multiple unanswered messages. When I finally spoke with “Justin,” he told me their in-room smoking monitor had flagged me for smoking or vaping from 6:00–6:40 a.m. one morning, claiming a “100% reading.” I explained this was impossible, but was given only two options: 1. Provide proof that I did not smoke in my room—an absurd request, as I was traveling alone and had no such “evidence.” 2. Go to arbitration. However, their “arbitration” is entirely in-house—not an independent, unbiased process—and would take 6–8 months for a decision. Justin even suggested I dispute the charge with my credit card company in the meantime. The issues here are many: • It took 10 days to reach a human being. • The staff member I finally spoke with was dismissive and rude. • The so-called “smoking monitor” is clearly flawed. • Their arbitration process is biased by design. I understand the need to enforce non-smoking policies, but charging guests based on questionable technology without fair recourse is unacceptable. The lack of accountability and poor customer service completely overshadowed what could have been a decent stay. I will not be staying at La Quinta again, and I strongly urge others to choose one of the many nearby hotels instead.

"Not Worth the Price – Disappointing Experience"

While the hotel has a great location and decent facilities, my stay was full of frustrating issues. Parking was overpriced and limited — I even had to park four blocks away one night. Housekeeping never showed up during my 3-night stay, not even to change towels. I had to go down to the lobby myself several times. The elevators are painfully slow, with wait times up to 20 minutes. And breakfast? Completely chaotic and understocked every morning. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Unless major improvements are made, people will stop coming by choice and only stay out of necessity.
