"Huge Suite"

Wow! For only about $20 more than the room we'd stayed in about an hour away from here, we got a huge suite at Hotel Lexen. It may actually have been TOO big! The bed was very comfortable, the living area was great, although we don't understand why NO DOOR between the two? So if one of us wanted to go to bed sooner, they still heard the TV in the other room. Also, the bathroom was gigantic and so was the shower. But too much wasted space in there. One bad thing was the shower head that had almost no water pressure on either of the two settings. Possibly just needed soaked in vinegar to get rid of hard water buildup? Did enjoy the convenience of the outdoor bar on the second floor. Breakfast in the morning was okay. We really didn't get more than coffee since we were meeting someone elsewhere. Parking was convenient and safe. Staff were all friendly and professional. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this hotel.

Room was clean, the employees were friendly. Would stay here again. But walls are thin so you could hear some snoring in the other room, but they do have free earplugs.

"Very clean and great vibe"

I enjoyed my stay. The room was very clean, and I loved the vibe and decor. The 2nd-floor bar had a great atmosphere, and the location was perfect, close to many eateries. I appreciated the thoughtful touch of earplugs provided for rooms on the railroad side. While the train noise was audible, it wasn’t disruptive.

"The noise, the comfort, and the fun"

This hotel is a bundle of contradictions. First, the big problem: it is extremely noisy! It fronts on Railway Avenue, which Is a five-lane, 35 mph near-highway; on the other side of Railroad Avenue is—big surprise—a very active passenger railway. From 5:30 AM to 10:30 PM, commuter trains whiz by every hour, blaring their whistles very loudly. Even with hotel-supplied ear plugs, my phone on white noise, and the heating fan set to on, I could not sleep in the room that I was initially given. My advice: ask for a room facing away from Railroad Avenue, or one of the six ‘Premier’ rooms that face in the hotel’s inner courtyard. Here's the second thing to be aware of: don’t stay here if you like a hearty, free breakfast. They offer no eggs, bacon, sausages, biscuits and gravy, etc. For me, the best option was a toasted bagel with orange juice. And if you like coffee, you’re ok, but if you are a tea person, it’s Lipton or nothing. Minimal is the word! You might well ask why anyone would choose to stay here, so here are the postiives of Hotel Lexen Newhall. If you get one of the quiet rooms, they are very comfortable and relatively new—the hotel opened in 2021. Rooms are also cleaned daily, and the staff are very accommodating. If you like outdoor bars, they offer Wednesday through Saturday bar service in the open-air courtyard. If you like the outdoors, then you are really in luck, because W. S. Hart park is only a block away. It has a mini-zoo with a pig, a llama, and various ducks, geese, and even an emu. There are also extensive hiking trails, one of which leads past the small herd of bison. Finally, there is historical interest: Hart was a silent movie star featured in Westerns, and he lived here until his death, when he donated his estate to the county as a park. That means that his hilltop house, the bunk house, and even the grave of his acrobatic horse, Fritz, have been preserved here. Sadly, they were closed for renovation during my stay. The last and perhaps best reason to stay here is the hotel’s walking proximity to Old Town Newhall’s Main Street, where there are wine bars, a brewpub, a BBQ joint, the Eat Real café and tea shop, Maginn’s Irish pub, the Way Station diner, and both Mexican and Japanese bakeries. This cluster of local businesses is a fantastic alternative to the gamut of plastic, national chain restaurants and retailers that clutter the rest of Santa Clarita.
