"Hardest bed I have ever tried to sleep on & threatening lecture from staff for ordering food from off site"

This is the place to stay if you enjoy sleeping on a sheet of plywood and being lectured by staff for ordering delivery food not from the hotel. 1) I stayed for 5 nights on business and they were the worst sleep I have had in years because the bed was as hard as rock; the hardest mattress I have ever slept on. The first night was painful (other reviews confirm this). They did provide a thin egg carton foam mattress topper but I had to ask and only found out this was an option from other poor reviews about mattresses.... which highlights that this is a known issue for the hotel for years. The cheap 1 inch topper provided a very slight improvement. 2) I was lectured by a male staff member for ordering food from outside the hotel as they wanted me to go down to the lobby to pick it up. The reason was "security" when we all know that these policies are simply to try and push the uber expensive items on the in-room dining menu. Now if the in-room dining menu included the items in the lobby restaurant I would have ordered it more; but only about 1/3 of the items on that menu were available for in-room dining. Getting food from an outside delivery service 2 times over a 5 day stay is not unreasonable. The staff member came up to my room and attempted to lecture me on hotel security, I simply told him that I knew that the policy had ZERO to do with security and EVERYTHING to do with trying to sell more in-room dining. He told me "not to do it again" and tried to hold my room door open (which is an actual security issue). I pushed it closed as I was not interested in paying good money to be told off. All you do to mitigate any potential security is call up to the room to confirm with the guest that he/she is expecting a delivery, simple...... anyone off the street can tailgate behind guests in the elevator so this security nonsense is not honest. There are positive things about the hotel, but I am not going to mention them, if hotel MGMT knows they have uncomfortable beds but keeps them for years then they don't deserve a good review. If hotel MGMT make policies that inconvenience guests just so that they can sell more in-room dining and then lie to and berate guests for ordering food from off site then they don't deserve a good review. P.S. trying to physically hold a guests room door open threatening behavior and was totally unacceptable given the situation. Regular visitor to Victoria. Would not recommend, will not stay again.

The service in general was excellent. The front desk staff and Bell Captain was superb. Everything was clean and comfortable. A couple of minor glitches make sure that you carefully close the window curtains. The outside lights will wake you. The hotel rooms are a bit dated. A bit short of electrical outlets and I don’t recall any USB outlets. Housekeeping does an excellent job as long as you go along with their plan. Don’t rearrange tables, chairs or coffee pots to suit your needs or they will rearrange them to suit the hotel. The hotel restaurant has decent ratings for a hotel restaurant but you can do better. The hotel is convenient especially if you are on a ferry and within easy walking distance. I’d gladly stay here again.

"4.5* experience in 5* hotel"

Our family really enjoyed our stay here. The location is great, there is free overnight parking on the street (hotel parking is $23 which we used the first night, read street parking signage carefully), all the staff are super friendly and helpful, and the restaurant Fathom’s breakfast is so delicious (mushroom Benedict!) that we had it every morning in the gorgeous heated terrace area. Shout out to Ken who was the most attentive server. Ask the front desk for the $25 voucher deal (saves you a few bucks for adults). They also have a kids menu. This is a traditional 5star hotel in that they have everything- pool, gym, fridge and coffee tea in the room, restaurant and cafe and superb service. I couldn’t give it a full 5star experience because the rooms need a deep cleaning, and things like the old creaky sofa bed needs to be replaced in the lovely and well laid out 1 BR Victoria suite. It was still very comfortable for our family of 3 and I would definitely recommend the Grand Pacific and return to it again. Few hotels have a lovely balcony so this was so nice to get fresh air. The website was also easy to use and they had lots of different offers. A family member did not like the Delta, in comparison. Don’t hesitate to book if you find a great deal (on their site or bC ferries deal or iprefer member)!

"Lovely Stay at the Hotel Grand Pacific"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5

Our stay at the Hotel Grand Pacific was lovely. It is conveniently located directly across the street from the Victoria Clipper and Black Ball ( MV Coho) ferry terminals. We were upgraded to a king suite and the front desk allowed an early check in and a late check out. What a treat. Very warm and accommodating staff. The room was beautiful, very clean and the bed was very comfortable. What we really enjoyed was being able to open the sliding glass door to the veranda, which overlooks the city, and sit outside. We enjoyed the Fathom lounge very much. The bartenders were top notch and the cocktails very tasty. Compared to other luxury hotels we have stayed, rates for this hotel are very good and an exceptional value. The convenience of location is a plus. It is true that Victoria is a very walkable city. I would recommend visiting Victoria to anyone. Great city, great hospitality.
