GreenTree Inn San Diego Mission Bay in San Diego, CA

Overall exactly what we needed. The rooms are dated as is pretty much the whole hotel. A very small pool area. However some real positives. The beds are big and very comfy and the air con is excellent.

Check in ok, quite simple. Lift made a random shuddering noise when you reached 3rd floor (used the stairs the rest of the time until check out and needed for the suitcases) had a view of the pool, could instantly see a strange film of scum on the top of the pool! Could not see the bottom of the pool as too misty! Tiles broken. No safe in the room. Note in the room to say that in order not too disturb us that there would only be a maid service for three days (we were there for 3 days) which meant that that no refill of coffee cups etc, (small world problems but coffee cups provided smelt of poo, so may have sat there for a while). First night there we asked reception if there was anywhere local to walk to and was advised that it wasn’t a tourist hotel so nowhere to walk to! Breakfast - the hot food looked like it was put back out each day, by day 3 the turkey burgers had a hard dark rim on them! Our family stuck to toast and cereal, the bread was normally gone by 8.30-9 so would have to chase the staff for more (mostly because that’s what most people for filling up on) There was a bonus of free parking I guess but you will need to drive out to beaches and food.

The room was fine, I just was expecting something a little nicer for $300/ night. The carpets wre stained, breakfast was the typical sad buffer. The pool was tiny, only good for one family. If you're looking for a nice motel and willing to pay hotel prices its fine.

On 4/23/25, I prepaid $146.59 for a room at the Green Tree Inn San Diego, with a check in date of 4/26/25 and check out date of 4/27/25. On 4/26/25, The Green Tree Inn San Diego double-charged me $213 for the aforementioned prepaid room at check in. I immediately requested a refund, and the front desk agent assured me that the full amount will be refunded within 5 business days. However, The Green Tree Inn only partially refunded the charge ($101.43) as of 6/29/25. I am still fighting with my credit card company and Green Tree Inn to get my money back, over two months after my stay! DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL IF YOU VALUE YOUR FINANCES!!

We did no start off our stay very well. The room smelled like smoke. We tried to turn on the TV, but the remote didn’t work. I called the front desk and they said they would send someone over in 15 minutes. We waited over 30 minutes, so I took the remote to the lobby office and they changed out the remote batteries. There were batteries just sitting there and I thought, they are probably dead. I go back to the room and sure enough the remote didn't work. I went back to the office and said they did not work. They said they would send someone to our room. I told them we were waiting over 30 minutes and no one came. They didn’t seem to care or apologize for the inconvenience. Then, the maintenance guy walked in and followed me to our room to confirm the remote didn’t work. He left and came back with 3 other remotes and one of them finally worked. The phone kept ringing in our room, but no one was there when we answered. We finally just unplugged the phone. The walls were super thin. We were in a handicapped room, which was right next to their laundry room. They did laundry until 10 pm and started up again at 8:00 am. Wow! What a stupid place to put a room. The shower was handicap, so there was no way to keep the shower water contained and the whole bathroom floor was wet. Why weren’t drains put in toe catch the water? Later we found out that our window was left open, which explained why we heard so much noise outside too. Then, you have the parking. Trying to park near the pool is a nightmare. It’s extremely hard to get in and out. Their large parking lot was blocked with a lot of cones, so we were limited with parking anywhere. The pool is super small and pictures are deceiving. The breakfast was ok at least, but I would not recommend staying here. We paid $150 a night, which it wasn’t worth it! Luckily, we only had to stay one long night.
