"Great hotel, but a couple of serious issues."

Overall, this is a wonderful hotel. The grounds are beautiful. The pool is amazing. The saltwater lagoon is a lot of fun. The service is excellent. This hotel is great for families. There are numerous places to eat. There is shopping available. There is a great spa. There is even a welcome lounge to stay if your room is not ready, or if you need to check out and your flight does not leave until late at night. However, there are some negatives. First of all, it pertains to the rooms. The rooms are decent. We stayed in a couple of rooms because we have to spread out since we have a large family. Unfortunately, each of the rooms had a musty smell. I think it is from all the humidity. In addition, there is mold in the bathroom that is not cleaned properly. Honestly, it's kind of gross. Second, the food quality is not at a Grand Hyatt standard. Probably the best place to eat is the morning buffet. It is a good buffet, but it is definitely not amazing. We also ate at the sushi restaurant on site. It is mediocre at best. We also ate at the lobby restaurant, and honestly, it was bordering on awful. And lastly, we ate at the signature restaurant, Tidepools. Put it this way, while I did not get food poisoning, I did develop an upset stomach and bowels because of poor food quality. While this happened only once, the other times we ate there the food was just decent. I expected much more Tidepools since it is touted as being one of the best restaurants on the island. Anyway, regardless of all this, I would come back to this hotel again. You will have a great vacation there and your kids will love it.

"Great honeymoon, go else where if money is a concern"

Incredible spot to see… for two nights and two days. It’s like 1000 bucks per night and that matters to a lot of people on their honeymoon! Very few things are “resort guests only” Stay there for two nights and use the place to your hearts content. Then MOVE ON. Plenty of more affordable options on north shore or even in poipu proper. Not missing much by staying elsewhere the rest of your trip! Mahalo 🤙

"Overall Quality"

Every part of this stay was high quality: service, food, spa, pools/lazy river, beaches. If you are taller than 5'6" and/or a little plump I would recommend bringing your own float/tube, they are available to rent but they are kid/adult size and were too small for my comfort (I'm 5'10"). Specific food recommendation: Tidepools restaurant dish Hawaiian Catch.

"Outstanding Hotel"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5
Reviewed June 28, 2025 NEW
This hotel is exceptional. Upon arrival our room concerns were promptly addressed with kindness and professionalism. Steph at the front desk went above and beyond to assist us, answering our questions and ensuring our guest experience was first class. The hotel, pool and food service is simply outstanding. We had 3 rooms that were all well appointed, clean and stocked with top amenities. Our family and the kids can't stop talking about the fun they had in the pools and beach. The saltwater lagoon and water slide was their favorites. We cannot say enough great things about this hotel. The breath taking view when you walk in the hotel is enhanced by the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff who continually reinforced that they are dedicated to first class guest experience. The food service at the Hale Nalu was terrific and the staff was super friendly and helpful. We also ate at Tidepools and despite some mixed reviews we had read, our family of 11 was treated very well and had a terrific meal. We also had the daily breakfast buffet, which was one of the best we have had anywhere.

Grand Hyatt Kauai is like no other. From the point you walk through the large doors into the open-air lobby, looking straight into the ocean, you forget where you are. 3 amazing pools, swings overlooking the ocean, and luxurious rooms. Everything you could ever ask for in 1 location. Shopping, spa, bars, and amazing restaurants fit all your needs. Grand Club is a tier above the rest! Cultural activities each day to enjoy, close to Lihue with only a 25 min drive from the airport. Highly recommend for honeymooners and families. Kauai is hands down the best Hawaiian Island, with the Grand Hyatt the icing on the cake!
